Sheila Corcoran serves as the Indiana Department Commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars.  Sheila is proud to be the first female Commander of the Department of Indiana, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Prior to being the department commander, she has held several positions to include All-State post quartermaster, VFW All American Post Commander,  All American VFW District Commander, and the recipient of Department of Indiana Commander’s Eisenhower’s Award. She has also held many positions on the state and national level.

Currently, Sheila is also a life member of the VFW National  Home and a charter member of the Indiana VFW Cooties, which focuses on support for veterans that are ill. She is a Gold Legacy Life member of VFW Post 1587 in Speedway as well as VFW Auxiliary Post Member.

Sheila followed the legacy of her parents and the example of her two older brothers and enlisted into the military in 1984.  She served in Germany and then joined the Army Reserves at Fort Harrison. She then earned her eligibility for the VFW by serving in Baghdad, Iraq in 2006-2008. There she supported Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Civil Affairs Officer in charge of a Civil Military Operations Center. After returning home from war, she retired from the Army Reserve after 24 years of service.

Sheila is currently working at Witham Hospital in Lebanon, Indiana as a registered nurse. She has lived in Speedway, Indiana for the past 35 years enjoying the small-town community with the big race events.
